Mens Group

This is the page for the Kings Church Men's Group.

The Men's group was started so we chaps could fellowship together freely.

Our first outing at the beginning of the year was to walk together as a group, up the Ifach, at Calpe. We met in the car park at the bottom. I had given Mick a lift to there, so we were a few minutes late!, Barry and Graham and Arthur (With Fergus) were already there, but we were still on time for a good day out. We proceeded up the mountain and through the tunnel before turning back. The tunnel floor is just polished rock, and so was quite treacherous, but we navigated it all AOK.

Our second meeting was for a lesson in Spanish, led (facilitated) by Chris. A bold step. A solid two hours of PowerPoint slides, based around the curious fact that we already know a huge amount of vocabulary - its just that the same letters are pronounced differently in Spanish. Virus is still written as Virus - but it sounds different as V's become soft B's and the U gets a bit more push in Spanish.

We also listened to Ritchie Valens singing La Bamba, then followed with the lyrics in Spanish and then translated them to English - as Mick said - pop songs are stupid in all languages. Finally we listened to, and followed the lyrics of “Damos honor a ti” listen here which was a worship song we learnt at the nearby Spanish evangelical church. The title meaning "I give you (friendly you) all the Honor!"

Next we met as a group and played Boule or Pétanque (Wikipedia defines both names as the same game) on  the beach near John's villa. Great fun. Mick eventually taking the title, and Graham (whose Boule's we used) going home for a duck!

We went for a nice chat and coffee at the local bar, whilst admiring the fish in the Marina.

Next outing was 'just' to a bar on the seafront with Nigel and Ian, Mick and Chris. A very relaxing and pleasant chat among lads. We were very English that afternoon!

Then we had an interregnum! Arthur had gone home for the summer, Barry had popped off to France, and we were all busy. Barry has now returned for three months, and so we managed to get a quorum together for a second game of Pétanque which we played yesterday (29/0709) and I'll show the video on Sunday!

The last meeting was Wednesday (5th August 2009 at 10:00) when we shared in fellowship as we did some essential maintenance to the fabric of our building.

Our next meeting will be a lesson on air gun shooting out on the Campo (Mick and Lyn's estate (edited by the SP!)).

Date suggestions please to Chris.
